Director Arun Matheswaran returns with DC, an ultra-stylish, revenge-fueled action thriller. Reimagining the classic Devdas story into a gritty saga of survival and vengeance, this movie marks the highly anticipated acting debut of star director Lokesh Kanagaraj. With pulsating action, deeply flawed characters, and a phenomenal musical score by Anirudh Ravichander, DC is a brutal yet beautiful theatrical event that promises to be a peak cinematic experience.

💡 Did You Know?

  • A Unique Title Meaning: The title “DC” is actually an acronym representing the film’s two lead characters: Devadas (played by Lokesh Kanagaraj) and Chandra (played by Wamiqa Gabbi)!
  • Lokesh’s Director Easter Eggs: The movie features some amazing nods to Lokesh’s own directorial ventures. In one action sequence, Das eliminates villains using a ‘kada’ (bangle), heavily echoing a famous fight scene he directed in Vijay’s blockbuster Master.
  • Reimagining a Classic: Director Arun Matheswaran put a dark, violent spin on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel Devdas (1917). Instead of a wealthy man-child turning to alcohol over a lost lover, this Devadas is a street-level gangster fueled by the grief of losing his mother!

About the Movie – The Plot

DC follows Devadas (Das), an unapologetic gangster reeling from deep-seated grief over losing his mother. After ambushing a police convoy and seeking justice for a wronged widow, Das and his gang are relentlessly hunted by the cops. While on the run, Das crosses paths with Parvathi, a bar singer, and Chandra, a woman carrying the scars of severe exploitation. As these broken souls collide, it sets off a tense cat-and-mouse chase, leading to a blood-soaked tale of redemption, loyalty, and brutal revenge against a corrupt system.

Cast and Crew

The film features a thrilling blend of talent, both behind and in front of the camera:

  • Lokesh Kanagaraj makes a highly confident acting debut as Devadas (“Das”), the grieving, rage-filled gangster.

  • Wamiqa Gabbi delivers a powerhouse performance as Chandra, channeling her inner rage in her Kollywood debut.

  • Sanjana Krishnamoorthy plays the pivotal role of the bar singer Parvathi.

  • The supporting cast includes Avinash Raghudevan (Kitty) and Krish Dayal.

The film is directed by Arun Matheswaran (Captain Miller, Saani Kaayidham), bringing his signature visual flair. The thumping, career-best background score is composed by rockstar Anirudh Ravichander.
